Secondly, the thing that throws me off about the Blacktop Jaguar is that even though it doesn't have the old school bridge and tremolo like the regular ones, it still has the 24" scale length. I'm used to the 24-3/4" scale of a Les Paul, but I'm afraid 24" would just be too slinky.

If you already have a Squier, you should consider moving up and getting a Fender. Moving laterally with gear can often be a waste. You can get a used Fender Blacktop Jaguar 90 for about 50-75 bucks more than a new Vintage Modified Jag and it will be a MUCH better instrument in every conceivable way.

I thought it might be useful to share some information here about the Blacktop Jaguar HH. My motivation for buying this was based on an interest in the short scale-length and simplicity of controls, and I figured I'd just hope for the best as far as how everything else worked out.

Jim, you should make your own!!! I have the Blacktop HSH, and made my own as well, basically. With Pearly Gates in the neck position. You could get two PAF style HBs, an HSH or swimming pool routed body, and a leftover strat middle, and have it exactly how you like it!!
